We are all concerned about our children's health, particularly in this age of child obesity; keeping your kids away from the television set can be both a challenge and an important mission, and video games can be one of the biggest culprits of keeping our kids inside, sitting on their butts and not getting exercise! There are certainly ways, however, to gently encourage your children to have fun without video games; just a few simple options of which are to encourage playing outside with friends, encourage participating in organized sports, and finding toys that keep your child outside having a good time.
Your child might sometimes feel the urge to stay inside, watching TV or playing video games, but it can be important not only for health and exercise, but for socialization, for your child to get outside and run around; encourage playing outside as much as possible, and also playing with friends, so that your little one can exercise, socialize, and get up and away from that television set.
Another great outdoor activity that will get your child outside is enrolling him or her in an organized sport; find out which one they like best and the encourage their participation as much as possible; practice with them if you can, and if you don't know much about the sport, take the time to learn with your child - this will benefit both of you with quality time and an education in something new and fun; and the exercise will do you both some good, and get you both away from that television set and out into some fresh air.
The toys your child plays with are going to have a very large impact on their lifestyle, so you can help determine your child's outdoor activities by making sure the toys you buy are meant for outdoor use; the more outdoor toys your child has, the more time he or she will spend outside, getting exercise (again, away from the TV) - just make sure you take a look at the level of supervision necessary for the toy and match the age of the toy with your boy or girl to assure safety, and you will be able to encourage outdoor play through your purchases!
Building a healthy exercise routine is more important now than ever before, and guiding your child away from constant video game play can be an essential part of developing the good habits of outdoor play; encouragement to play with friends, enrolling in organized sports once they are old enough, and building your child's toy collection to move the play outside rather than inside can all be effective ways to bring about that up and outside attitude.
